Debunking the Defaming Lies of a NY Post Writer Who Smears the Kletzky Family, Shomrim

A columnist in the NY Post writes “The Orthodox community is alone in policing itself — sometimes to horrifying results. Last year, 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky disappeared in Borough Park, but his mom didn’t call the cops. She called Brooklyn South Shomrim, an unarmed and untrained civilian patrol. Cops were finally called by the boy’s dad nearly three hours after Leiby vanished. It was too late. Leiby’s dismembered body was found in the freezer of mad man Levi Aron, and in a nearby Dumpster.”

This is defamation and misleading crap of the highest order:

1)   Kletzky left school approximately 5:30 pm. Shomrim was contacted at about 6:00 and NYPD was contacted ninety minutes later, after a preliminary sweep and calls to family and friends didn’t turn up results. The NYPD would not have done anything differently or faster in the first few hours of a child missing, because in most cases a child “missing” means a child walking off some place without telling a parent.

2)   The Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the NYC agency which coordinates major events, released its “Missing Child Alert” only the next day at 2:30 PM; which is 21 hours after Leiby went missing. This proves that NYPD policy does not move faster than Shomrim in missing child cases, and but for the Jewish masses coming out in force the first evening to search for the nine year old, one can wonder how much effort the NYPD would have put in during the first 24 hours.

3)   The trace to Kletzky was first found by a Hasidic young man (not the NYPD) reviewing cameras from store to store, street to street, until he found the infamous footage showing Leiby standing at a street corner and approached by the killer.

4)   The people to first find the car and plates were members of the “Self-policing” Orthodox Jewish Community; not the NYPD.

5)   By all accounts, Kletzky was still alive more than 24 hours after being captured. To write “it was too late” when the Hasidim called the Police (two hours after he went missing), is a pure lie and an attempt to smear and defame a community.

  • Really??

Did you not think about addressing the other and real accusation,
Or is it just that you find it much easier to pull out the “Anti-Semitism” card ?

    • Abe

The post is a tabloid news paper, they are looking for dirt , it doesn’t matter for them if its true or not , and this is just 1good example,

  • Reuvenboruch

I read the NY Post all the time. I also get my info from alot of other sources (regarding Israel & the Jewish Community)…. One of my favorite columnists is Caroline Glick, Deputy Editor of the Jerusalem Post, and ardent supporter of Israel

I don’t find the NY Post to be “Anti-Zionist”.. there are a couple of columnists who are on staff who don’t care about Israel or the Jewish Community.. that’s called balance…..

I don’t think anyone would accuse the NY Post of the type of media bias exhibited by the NY Times….

As a POI…. There are problems in the Jewish Community, just like every other community….

When a crime has been committed, does it matter if the offender is Orthodox??

Anyone who reads, and follows the Torah would not commit such acts.. The Torah specifically lists many prohibitive commandments in order to stop people from giving into impulse & weakness…..
