Politico Reports: Leaders generally avoid wading into member-on-member battles in the same party. But Hoyer released a warm statement on behalf of Berman, calling him a “highly-respected leader” known for his background in foreign affairs.
Berman is facing off against fellow Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman.
Hoyer is the second-ranking Democrat in the House. The chamber’s top Democrat – fellow Californian Nancy Pelosi – is publicly neutral, although she filmed a video greeting for a Berman fundraiser late last year.
