In 189 Words: What the UN Vote Says About Obama, Clinton and Rice

Yossi GestetnerThe U.S. has no veto power in General Assembly Votes, but the Palestinian Bid passing this afternoon at the UN means one of the two:

1)   Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice sell Israel a nice story about being on their side but when it comes to it in actual terms they do nothing to stop what Israel views as a diplomatic move in the wrong direction. If this is the case it fits Obama’s private demands and public indications that Israel not invade Gaza during the latest flareup, regardless how it may help improve their security.

2)   Maybe the above three really agree with Israel (not just in official statements on the UN bid issue), yet are powerless to stop a determined Abbas from getting his way, and from getting support from countries with whom we supposedly have good working relationships. If this is the issue, one has to wonder what an influential-less UN Ambassador is doing on a short list to be nominated as the next Secretary of State.

But then again, seeing how little Mrs. Clinton has to show for her mileage around the globe, one can conclude that Obama does not expect much from his staff.
