Cornwall, NY – NYSP: Retired NYPD Officer Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds

The Cornwall Police Department along with the New York State Police are investigating an incident where a 44-year-old retired NYPD officer was found dead with gunshot wounds on Church Street, in Cornwall, NY.

Police said they responded to a call on Sunday, August 24th, 2014, at 11:58PM, that a male has been found unresponsive at his home.

Officers who arrived to the scene discovered the man with gunshot wounds on the deceased body, alongside his 2008 gray Nissan Xterra. They immediately alerted homicide detectives to investigate.

New York State Police joined the Cornwall-On-Hudson Police Department in the investigation. A weapon believed to be used in the shooting, but belonged to the victim, was recovered at the scene.

The victim was identified as Bryant J. Furchak, 44, from New Windsor, NY.

The State Police are asking anyone with information pertaining to the movements of Furchak in the hours prior to his death, or anyone who was in the vicinity of Church Street and Hudson Street on Sunday night between the hours of 11 PM and Midnight, are asked to call the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Montgomery at 845-457-1389.
