Greater Manchester Police Apologize for Tweeting Image of Men Dressed as Nazis

Greater Manchester Police have apologized for a posting on their official Twitter account featuring two men dressed in Nazi uniforms, while standing next to a German military kubelwagen. Posted on August 7, the tweet featured the caption, “M62 J22 On the west Yorkshire border. These two likely lads trying to invade.”

The post was removed after being flagged by Twitter user Shulem Stern, a member of Stamford Hill’s Orthodox Jewish community.

“Two guys dressed in SS uniform tweeted by official @gmpolice account,” Stern tweeted, according to British website Jewish News. “Not right.”

The GMP later apologized for the tweet, describing it as “unacceptable.”

“This post was deleted as soon as were made aware of it and we apologize for its content,” a GMP spokesman said. “This matter has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch.”
