A giant banner of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the word “PEACEMAKER” was unfurled today on Manhattan Bridge.
The sign was only briefly displayed, starting after 1:30 p.m., and the police had already responded to the scene by 2:20 p.m.
A spokesperson for the NYPD told JP that the sign was approximately 20 ft. wide and 30 ft. tall. “The banner has since been removed by the Emergency Service Unit, and the investigation on who is behind this is ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
Gothamist writer Rebecca Fishbein pointed out that in October of 2014, a pop-up store opened in Gramercy selling pro-Putin merchandise. That store’s name? Peacemaker.
