A carjacking last night turned deadly after a stolen SUV crashed into a Connecticut synagogue, Fox 61 reports.
The incident began early Monday morning, when a man in New Haven was robbed by two men in their early 20s, one of whom acted as if he were armed. (It has not yet been confirmed whether either did actually possess a gun.) The robbed man handed over his wall, his phone, and the keys to his 2005 Toyota Highlander, which the thieves subsequently took off in.
A police pursuit of the vehicle began one hour later and only ended when the SUV collided with Congregation Beth El Keser Israel Synagogue, killing both of the men inside.
Synagogue leaders expressed sadness at the tragic circumstances and sad that the crash damaged both floors of their building. However, they still intended to hold services in whatever way possible.
