In a rare and unique moment of unity, Jewish organizations’ heads gathered Thursday evening to a intimate and thorough discussion about the allocation of taxpayers money towards a creating a better environment for Jewish education.
The meeting. at the home of Michael Landau, chairman of COJO of West Side, was coordinated by City Councilman Mark Levine, who also serves as the chairman of the Council’s 14-member Jewish Caucus.
In response to a call by noted community leader Rabbi Nachman Caller, an urgent meeting was held on Thursday night at the synagogue of Rabbi Cheskel Roth to discuss the options of preventing the construction of a Casino at the site of the former Concord Hotel in Monticello.
The meeting was attended by more than thirty prominent Rabbonim from the Borough Park community. Upon conclusion of the meeting, it was decided that “the community must be urgently warned to do whatever it can to prevent the destruction” of several Orthodox Jewish communities in the Catskills consisting of camps, homes, and schools which would result from the building of a casino in the vicinity.
London, UK – Thousands of Jews gathered tonight in Stamford Hill in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Israel, at the same time that a mass protest took place in Israel – to rally in prayer against the decree of the Israeli military draft of Yeshiva students, which is contrary to the foundations of the Torah.
The rally was attended by many rabbis of different backgrounds, Rabbi Moshe Chaim Ephraim Fadva Av Beit Din of London reminded the the duty of everyone to participate with the children of Israel in Israel against the draft law “We protest the decree for our brethren in Israel who live in our holy land,” he said.
Avigdor Lieberman, the newly reinstated Israeli Foreign Minister, arrived Tuesday to the United States to meet with Secretary of State John Kerry.
Mr. Lieberman’s first stop was at the Ohel of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe in Queens, according to Crown Heights Info. Mr. Lieberman was last month acquitted of all charges in his latest trial, after an ongoing 16-year period of police investigations.

Turkish riot police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse some 3,000 protesters who tried to enter Taksim Square in Istanbul. The group had gathered on the pedestrian way that leads to the square, the site of nearly three weeks of protests against hardline Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamic-rooted government. At least 4 protesters have died in the protests and thousands more injured. See Video
